THE REPORT

Spec and state, per component: RAM's rated speed next to what it is actually running, a memory slot's size next to whether anything is in it, the battery's design capacity next to what it holds today. The half that every other tool quietly drops is the entire reason this one exists.

The Speklo report window, light theme: sections for system, CPU, RAM, storage and network, each fact on its own line — Rendered by the app itself, here reporting the virtual machine it was built on. Where a fact cannot be read from an authoritative source, Speklo says "(unavailable)" rather than inventing a number.

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MACHINE

There is no networking code in the binary. Not a telemetry endpoint, not an update ping, not a crash reporter. Speklo cannot phone home, because the code to do it was never written.
A saved report describes silicon, not you. No serial numbers, no UUID, no MAC addresses, no IP. Paste it in a forum or send it to support with nothing to scrub, because nothing personal was ever written into it.
Live values and identifiers stay on screen. Readings that move, and the serials a support call sometimes needs, live in a separate live readout with no save button. It cannot be exported, by construction rather than by policy.
One write, ever. Saving produces a plain text file, exactly where you point, and that is the only thing Speklo ever writes.

WHY NOT SPECCY

Its sharing feature uploads your PC to the web. Speccy's "Publish Snapshot" sends your system profile to its maker's servers and mints a public URL for it. Speklo has no upload to offer: nothing in the binary can open a connection.
One file versus an installer wearing a CCleaner badge. Speccy ships as a setup program from the CCleaner ecosystem, owned by Gen Digital, the Avast and Norton conglomerate, and sells a $19.95 "Professional" tier whose added value is automatic updates and a support queue. Speklo is one small file and there is no paid tier, because there is nothing to withhold.
It freezes moving numbers into saved files. A snapshot that records a temperature is wrong by the time anyone reads it, and Speccy's readings are famously wrong even on screen for some hardware. Speklo's report carries stable facts only, shows live values live, and prints "(unavailable)" rather than guess.
It wants administrator rights. Speklo runs as you, from world-readable sources; the few facts that genuinely need elevation degrade to "(unavailable)" instead of demanding your password.
Linux exists. Speccy is Windows-only. Speklo renders the identical report on Windows and Linux from one portable core.

WHY NOT HWINFO

No kernel driver, ever. HWiNFO reads its sensors by loading a driver into the Windows kernel with administrator rights: ring 0 is the price of admission. Speklo never elevates and never installs anything into your kernel; on Linux it reads the sensors the kernel already publishes, and on Windows it says "(unavailable)" instead of paying that price.
Free means free. HWiNFO is free for personal use only: commercial use requires a paid Engineer or Corporate license. Speklo is free on your desk and at your job.
A report, not a firehose. HWiNFO answers every question with a thousand sensor readings and a tree of windows. Speklo's answer is one readable page: each component's spec and its state, signal only. Your family can read it to you over the phone.
Nothing to scrub before you post it. Reports from most tools need a pass with a marker pen before they are safe to share. A Speklo report cannot contain a serial, a UUID, a MAC or an IP, so there is nothing to redact.
Linux again. HWiNFO is a Windows program. Speklo treats Linux as a first-class citizen with the same report, not a port.
